Keep calm and carry on :)

I've been a huge fan of the slogan. I once heard that teaching is one of the most stressful jobs. Well, I agree.  As a grammar school teacher I am often dead beat after a difficult day at school (the weather conditions seem to have quite an influence on the situation, any rain or snow and the students just go crazy! Confirmed by years of observation :P) To keep myself sane for a bit longer I decided to make my very own and private version of the slogan. I put it in a visible place on my desk, it really makes me smile every time I happen to look at it :)

The history of the 'keep calm and carry on' slogan is really interesting. In case you don't know it, here it comes: it used to be a poster designed by the British Government to raise the morale of the British during the Second World War. For some reason only a small percentage of the printed posters was distributed then. It was rediscovered in 2000. It popped up in an antiquarian  bookshop. The shop keeper liked it so much that he put it on a wall and within days more and more customers asked for copies. That's how it started.

Now 'keep calm and carry on' is one of the most popular motifs in the world. It appears on cups, lighters, notebooks...in my wallet :) (I made a smaller version so that I could always have one with me).

As for my plate, I just bought a wooden coaster, found a version of the poster that I liked and printed it. To glue the printout  to the coaster I used Mod Podge (which I also used as varnish). When it was dry I also used a glossy varnish just to be sure it would last.
