Kate and the Philosopher's .... candle :)

Today I'd like to show you a super easy but quite impressive idea - a bottle covered with wax. Looks like taken straight from an alchemist's study. I found it on zrob-to-sam (huge thanks to the author - Purpurowa, for all the advice :)
Looks like this:

I chose a dark bottle - I wanted the wax to contrast with the glass.

I used up two candles. I cut the first one and put it in the bottle and melted the other one all over the bottle. If you just light the candle in the bottle it won't melt the way you see in the photo. Purpurowa posted a short clip showing how to get the effect on her blog here. 

Looks really beautiful when lit :) Like magic (Harry Potter even :P). 

The only drawback is that the wax will break off every time I move the bottle so I'm thinking about using spray glue or varnish to make it more durable. 

To finish off, the view from my window (1,5m away ;) That explains why I sometimes feel watched :P

Flower power - Terrarium update

Today I'd like to give you a small update on my plant terrariums (you can read the original post here). The big fern bowl looks just like it before so I think there's no need for new photos. Just to remind you (old photo):

However, a few other terrariums appeared :) I wanted to achieve something like this:

And I have this:

After some time a new bud appeared :)

and my mini orchid is blooming again

There's no denying, an orchid closed in glass looks beautiful :) I watered mine only once - just after putting it inside the container.

I put it still in its pot which I covered with dried moss.

Here's the very first orchid that is going to bloom again after it's lost blossom completely. I never know where to cut the stalk so once the orchid loses its flowers it stays that way until I have to get rid of it (usually because of yellow leaves or other disease). So this small guy is a really nice surprise :)

And here is my cyclamen plant in a terrarium. Unfortunately I didn't have a proper camera at the time and now the plant doesn't have flowers and stays in a cool dark place.

Garden leftovers ;)

Hello again ;) Today, just like in the title, I'd like to show you what I did with my "garden leftovers" so to say. I just went through the garden cutting whatever came on hand and then put it all together to make a bouquet or two. I ended up with something like this:

Maybe it's not exactly breathtaking but it does cheer up the room. Actually, it's my first year with flowers growing in the garden. Before that, there was just a lot of green stuff (trees and shrubs, I mean), something just possessed me and I started to plant flowers all over the place:P What you see here is my first harvest  ;)

While I'm at it, I'd like to show you my new purchase: some kind of mercury glass urn that I use as a vase. The only problem is I didn't predict the paint is not waterproof  :/ When I threw the flowers out I noticed quite a lot of the silver disappeared, mostly from the bottom. At least it doesn't stand out that much. Now if I want to put a bouquet in it, I put a jar inside the urn.

See the lines on the sides? I didn't notice them then but the flower stems stripped the paint off :/

I used all the little flowers that were too small for the big bouquet to make a cute posy  :)

I'll soon write an update post about my plant terrariums (I've been putting into terrariums anything that comes withing my reach lately :P)
